4th Annual Pure Mendocino® Celebration Announces Fresh Focus

Farm Tour and Picnic August 24, 2008

CO-OP logoThe 4th Annual Pure Mendocino Celebration announces a fresh, regional focus to the Pure Mendocino Farm Tour and Picnic August 24, 2008, 10 a.m.-2 p.m, co-sponsored by the Ukiah Natural Foods Co-op. This year’s tour showcases Potter Valley and will be held at McFadden Farm and Vineyard.

The family-friendly event starts at 10 a.m. with a tour of McFadden Farm and Vineyard in Potter Valley.  At noon, event co-sponsor, Ukiah Natural Foods Co-op, presents an organic picnic lunch accompanied by live music, local favorite and accordion player, Don Willis.  For guests 21 or older—there will be a tasting of McFadden wine made from organically grown grapes.
Tickets are $15 per person.  Children under five are free.

The tour will give a view of sustainable farming practices in action. “The goal of the farm tour,” said CRCMC Founder, Sara O’Donnell, “is to encourage people to learn more about the connection between food, the environment, and health.”McFadden Farms

Each year the Pure Mendocino Farm Tour and Picnic offers a taste of a different Mendocino County growing region.  The 2008 focus is on Potter Valley, just north of Lake Mendocino off of Highway 20.

Guinness McFadden has been farming organically for 37 years.  He and his family ranch organic cattle, produce culinary herbs, Guinness McFaddenand grow seven varietals of award-winning organic wine grapes on their northern Potter Valley farm. “We are so pleased to participate in Pure Mendocino, because of the support CRCMC offers our community,” said McFadden.

Pure Mendocino Organic Food and Wine Tasting

Visitors can experience all of Mendocino County’s growing regions Saturday, August 23rd from 4-7:30 p.m., when over thirty local chefs, organic vintners, and purveyors of organic and wild-crafted foods gather on the vineyard patio of Parducci Wine Cellars. Tickets are $40 per person.
